Key People

Director/Founder: Ultan Coen BEng (Hons) HDip Proj Mgmt MIEI

Having graduated from DIT Bolton St with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ultan worked all through the ‘boom years’ as a building services design engineer on all manner of projects, from RIAI award winning heritage projects to ultra hi-spec private homes and from schools, industrial units and hotels to office and apartment blocks all over Ireland.

An active member of the IEI (Institute of Engineers Ireland), Ultan constantly strives for continued professional development and has completed a HDip in Project Management specifically for built-environment professionals in Trinity College Dublin. Undertaking the course is critical to having an advanced understanding of the various aspects of a project beyond simply its design, and includes:

  • Project Management
  • Legal Aspects
  • Contract and Tendering Procedures
  • Project Control and IT in Construction
  • Project Accounting and Cost Control
  • Human Resources Management
  • Industrial Relations and Health & Safety
  • Insurance Aspects

In keeping with the company ethos of always being in step with change, Ultan has also recently qualified and registered as a ‘Certified European Passive House Design Consultant’ from the ‘Passiv Haus Instituit’ in Germany, prepared and ready for the next advance in standards for energy conservation and construction.

Ultan has also collaborated with SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) and carries out energy audits and management action plans for industrial and commercial customers requiring professional input and advice on how to effectively control and manage their expenditure on energy as a commodity.

Its not all work though, and when the tools are left down Ultan exercises his passion for gaelic games, running, history and reading. Last years goal of completing the 55km Art O’Neill Challenge was achieved (we wont mention how long it took him though) and his next endurance goal will be the Dublin City Marathon in 2012.
